Most of you will have seen that Milan’s wonderkid, namely Mattia Liberali, is on the verge of completing a move to Serie B side Catanzaro, of all places. Given that he was linked with some Serie A sides, it’s certainly not what I expected, but at least the formula of the deal is more recognisable. Indeed, the Rossoneri have opted for the 50% resale clause yet again.
About a year ago, I wrote a bonus article on the increase in domestic deals and why this will ultimately be very beneficial for Milan. In particular, Italian players have become more in demand since the abolishment of the Growth Decree, while smarter formulas have ended up at the forefront of this development. Especially when you look at young players.
At least in Milan’s case, a clear pattern has emerged on how they handle the sometimes delicate task of selling youngsters, who often only have potential to show for them. The latter is what tends to make the valuation process so tricky, all the while contract deadlines are often factored into the equation. Liberali, for better or worse, is another example of that.
