And then there were eight - Milan stay top as international break kicks off
Another round, another win for AC Milan who cemented their spot at the top of the standings thanks to their success against Cagliari. The Scudetto race is still in their hands, therefore, but now we have an international break. That is what we take a look at in this week’s edition, along with the latest news.
International break kicks off…
The international break is already underway as the Milan players, 13 of them in total, have travelled to join their respective national side. Some have very important games coming up (World Cup play-offs) and some will just be taking part in a few friendlies to keep the fitness up.
Alessandro Florenzi, Sandro Tonali and Rafael Leao could potentially face each other in a deciding final, which could be very exciting indeed. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is suspended for Sweden’s first game in the play-offs but should they make it through to the next stage, then surely he will play.
Hopefully, there won’t be any injuries for the Milan players as Stefano Pioli could use all of his men for the season finale. After all, the Scudetto race is entirely in their hands as things stand.
News bulletin…
Despite it being the most decisive and important period on the pitch, there has also been quite a lot of news surrounding matters such as the transfer market. Down below, we take a look at the most important updates:
➤ Milan are expected to agree a multi-year contract with Liverpool striker Divock Origi worth around €3.5-4m net per year. He would sign as a free agent.
➤ The Rossoneri remain locked in talks with Lille over Sven Botman and Renato Sanches, with the former closest to joining on a five-year deal for €30m.
➤ A new winger appears to be a concrete idea, with Club Brugge’s Noa Lang (€25m) and Sassuolo’s Domenico Berardi (€30m+) targeted.
➤ Rafael Leao, Ismael Bennacer and Pierre Kalulu are all expected to renew their contract soon.
And then there were eight…
Last week, we recapped the win against Empoli and took a look at the nine games that remained. Obviously, that has now decreased to eight games and the Rossoneri’s winning run is going strong. The next game is against Bologna and the kick-off time has been confirmed for the game: April 4th at 21:00 CET.
The time and date for the games against Torino, Genoa and Inter (Coppa Italia) have also been confirmed: April 10th at 20:45, April 15th at 21:00 and April 19th at 21:00. For those of you who are looking to see a game live before the season ends, it’s now possible to make some plans.
