It was said by many already after the Bologna defeat, and rightfully so, but the Champions League train has now fully left the station. The performance against Lazio was symbolic in many ways and Milan now find themselves in ninth place, with no European football guaranteed. The damage has already been done, even if they were to claw their way back to the Europa League.
Nothing beats the Champions League. From the atmosphere it creates, to the opponents you cross paths with and the money up for grabs, it’s no wonder that we - as fans - celebrated heavily when Milan secured their return for the 2021-22 season. Now, however, the Rossoneri will wave goodbye to the competition for at least one season, but the effects will stretch across several.
