What a frustrating 90 minutes that was. It’s something that we have experienced so many times before. A good tactical set-up, neutralisation of the opponent, many chances created, but the final touch lacking. It could come back to haunt Milan, but at least the tactics were right this time out.
There has been an endless discussion on social media about Milan’s horrendous tactics in the derby against Inter - and rightfully so. Therefore, it was nice to see a set-up that actually worked very well in the game against Newcastle this evening. The final result aside, it was positive indeed as Stefano Pioli’s men dominated the affair.
However, there’s just no getting around the fact that the Rossoneri have several capable finishers in attack and yet, with an XG (expected goals) of 2.08, they just couldn’t find the back of the net. It’s something that inevitably leaves a very bitter taste after what should have been a positive night; the restart as it was called before the game.
