😅 Sigh of relief

After our last newsletter, I’m sure a lot of us were quite worried about the Verona clash at the weekend. However, while it was very much a must-win and a game that would decide a lot, the hours leading up to it couldn’t have gone any better. On the Friday, Como lost against Sassuolo and on the Saturday, Napoli surprisingly lost against Lazio at home.

This meant that Milan not only had top four to fight for in their game, but also second place. It makes a big difference when there isn’t just pressure from below, and while the Rossoneri’s performance wasn’t anything to brag about, I think that was noticeable. Rather than getting stressed out and falling further into a hole, they stepped onto the pitch with patience and eventually got the job done.

With just five games remaining of the season (time flies, doesn’t it!), Milan have a nice eight-point cushion down to fifth place. Juventus won their most recent clash - thus extending their winning run - and could be a problem in the next round, but Como’s form at least suggests the Rossoneri won’t have a gun to their head. I guess I’m trying to say that Champions League is getting closer…

👑 More men like Adrien

Adrien Rabiot! What a signing he has been for Milan, arriving for less than €10m in the summer. You could even argue that it was a better signing than Luka Modric, although I wouldn’t look at it that way. After all, they have both had a tremendous impact on this team whilst complementing each other well, certainly not contributing with the same things on the pitch.

In any case, when Milan say that they want to strengthen the squad for next season, it’s players like Rabiot that they must target. Throw in a couple of youngsters by all means, but the main focus simply has to be on experience and quality. If this season hasn’t won over the management in that regard, I’m not sure what will, so the importance of this summer cannot be overstated.

It feels like we have said that every summer lately, but it’s also not every summer that we have had such a good foundation with such a good manager. Every single player, especially the key ones, adore Massimiliano Allegri and that should make us all optimistic for the 2026-27 season. Only the finishing touches are missing, although that is the step that most football clubs tend to screw up.

Milan Futuro suffered defeat in round 32 on Sunday, as they were beaten 1-0 by Varesina and missed the chance to seal a play-off spot. Baud got the only goal for the away side in the final 15 minutes. Oddo’s side remain fifth and in control of their own destiny, two points clear of Brusaporto and three ahead of Villa Valle with just 180 minutes of the regular season left to play.

It looks as though the play-off dream has left Milan Primavera after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Sassuolo over the weekend. A goal from Domnitei opened the scoring, but the Neroverdi equalised less than 10 minutes later. After a run of just one win in five, Renna’s team are 14th and eight points behind Bologna in sixth place.

It has been a week of nostalgia in terms of interviews. Olivier Giroud has admitted that he misses being a Milan player while discussing the striker issue the club are facing. Ronaldinho reflected on his decision to join the Rossoneri and fulfil a childhood dream, while Dida and Fabio Capello gave their take on current events.

Once again, Rafael Leao is at the centre of a lot of the headlines surrounding Milan. Matteo Moretto confirmed that the club could sell him and for €50m or less, with Barcelona keen and the player open to it. The Verona game was the perfect symbol of a troubled season as the Portuguese was frustrating until his assist, then negatively reacted to being taken off again.
