A lot has been said about AC Milan’s ticket prices in the last few months, even years, especially by fans who live in Italy. It’s a debate that might seem strange to Rossoneri fans who live abroad, in particular those in the United States where prices are generally quite high, but the relevancy cannot be denied. Fortunately, Bayern Munich have the answer to the dilemma.
Again, many have chimed in on this matter since the increases began, so I won’t bore you with another ‘this is too expensive’ line of argumentation. Instead, I will try to approach the issue from a different angle, highlighting the consumer-product relationship which has dominated in the last decade. Less so for Italian clubs, though they are slowly but steadily catching up.
I was watching a show with the Swedish journalist Erik Niva a few days ago. Some of you might know him, seeing as we have some Swedish subscribers here, but he's essentially known for living and breathing football. Few people understand the relationship between fans and football clubs as he does, with the ability to explain even the most difficult situations in ways that just make sense.
In any case, being a near-life-long supporter of Tottenham, Niva discussed the impact of Spurs’ flashy new stadium. By going from White Hart Lane’s capacity of just 36k to the current 62k, the idea wasn’t just that the club would be able to meet demand better, but also to keep the ticket prices down. However, that hasn’t exactly come to fruition with prices increasing even for season ticket holders.
