What happened at San Siro last night was nothing short of embarrassing for the AC Milan management. The performance on the pitch was admittedly bad, especially considering what the occasion meant, but the damning moment took place outside the stadium after the final whistle. Displaying some very clear banners, the fans officially let go of supporting the current management and ownership.
We have to say that the Milan fans and above all Curva Sud, aside from a couple of ‘silent treatments’ in the last few months, have been very supportive of the management. Even in the summer, and after the appointment of Paulo Fonseca, time was allowed for the club to show what they had in mind. In other words, it wasn’t exactly surprising that yesterday’s result was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Of course, it goes way beyond the result of the game, with everything from 8th place in the standings, inflated ticket prices and a ‘family feel’ that has been more or less wiped out in the last few months. ‘We are not Americans’ and ‘We have had enough of your mediocrity’ were some of the words on the forbidden banner (yes, it wasn’t allowed inside San Siro), so how did Gerry Cardinale react to this?
