Cutting through the confusion: Brass tacks on Milan's stadium projects [Bonus Article]
The battle of the Sans: will Donato or Siro prevail? We cut through the recent confusion with the latest on AC Milan's stadium projects.
The twists and turns have been plenty regarding the future of San Siro; will AC Milan team up with Inter (again) or build a stadium of their own in San Donato? However, amidst all of the confusion, a reality is emerging as the two clubs have been demanding answers; answers they are now starting to get. So, what are the brass tacks when it comes to our future home?
You could be forgiven for having tuned out of anything stadium-related in the last year or so, perhaps even the last two years. There has been a plethora of news updates and even for those who follow the situation closely, myself included, it has been a headache to keep up with everything. Above all, it’s been incredibly tough to wrap our heads around the various laws and regulations.
That being said, there has been a significant breakthrough on the San Donato front in the shape of the Program Agreement, while there also seems to be some kind of light at the end of the San Siro tunnel. At the very least, the latter is no longer a completely remote possibility for the clubs and paradoxically, that is mainly thanks to the efforts of Milan mayor Beppe Sala.
Those of you who have subscribed to SempreMilan Insider for quite some time will know that we aren’t exactly big fans of the mayor, and frankly that has been made very clear on the main site as well. In any case, with all of this having happened in the last few months or so, there is great confusion among the Milan fans - definitely fueled by vague and contradictory statements by President Paolo Scaroni.
So, then, the question is how we should judge the current situation as fans. In this bonus article, I will do my absolute best to explain the most recent developments and what they actually mean, whilst only focusing on the key details of the matter.
