Deflation deluxe [Bonus article]
AC Milan came back from behind twice and still didn’t claim a single point in their clash against Atalanta on Saturday evening. A tough pill to swallow for any team, but especially the Rossoneri after what appeared to be light at the end of the tunnel. Once again, we are now all deflated.
Where do we even begin? Tonight was one of many disappointing displays this season and, as has been a theme in several big games, the defending wasn’t good enough. Theo Hernandez may have looked decent at centre-back against Frosinone, but it was a completely different story this time out.
Whether we can blame the Frenchman or not is a separate discussion, and perhaps one that deserves an article of its own, but he could have done better nevertheless. The only problem is that this can be said for all of the starting defenders this evening, which suggests that the problem goes deeper than individual mistakes.
“If the match had ended 2-2, there would have been many positive things,” Pioli said after the game, and that is about as tone-deaf as it gets. A good majority of the Milan fans are calling for his exit, having grown tired of the collapses and the acres of space given to opponents, and to then respond with that quote is very strange.
