🤞 Fingers crossed for Luka

Not only did Milan-Juventus steal 90 minutes of our time, but also the remainder of Luka Modric’s season. The veteran suffered a fracture to his cheekbone after a nasty head collision with Manuel Locatelli, who probably should have been sent off at that point (several rough challenges, but only one yellow). It was later confirmed by the club that the No.14’s season is over.

Full focus will now be on recovering from the surgery, especially since the World Cup with Croatia is just around the corner. It doesn’t look like there will be any problems to make it back, but let’s cross our fingers just in case. As a positive precedent, Ruben Loftus-Cheek was back on the pitch just six weeks after suffering a fractured jaw; a collision that looked much worse, by the way.

Anyway, it just goes to show the fighting spirit that Modric still has, 100% committed to winning the ball without any fear whatsoever. And for those who are saying that it might have been his last game with the Milan shirt, I doubt it. Considering just how well this season has gone for him personally, I can’t see him turning down another crack at the Scudetto so long as the Rossoneri are willing to spend…

👊 Well done, Curva Sud

The other main talking point of Milan-Juventus was definitely the message from Curva Sud just before kick-off. Just like we saw with the “Sodalizio” message in the first derby against Inter, the fans lined their phone lights up to display “€139”, which was the price of a ticket in the Curva Sud section. To put that figure into context, a ticket in the same section for Milan-Atalanta costs €49.

There is no way that Milan’s owner, Gerry Cardinale, missed this as he was present in the stands of San Siro. The fact that it was a horrendous game from an entertainment point of view didn’t help either, as you can be sure that there wouldn’t be enough demand to warrant those prices if the game were to be played again next week. In short, it was a blatant money-grab.

I have written about the ticket prices at great length before, so I won’t bore you with another heartfelt speech, but I just want to say one thing to Cardinale myself: lower the prices and I promise that it will help in the long run. Imagine the buzz you could create next season with more reasonable prices (thus pleasing the fans) and some targeted signings to achieve success on the pitch…

Milan Futuro clinched all three points on Sunday afternoon, beating Castellanzese 3-1 away from home. The veteran forward Andrea Magrassi took matters into his own hands, scoring a goal in each half either side of an equaliser for the home side, before Branca made sure of the win with a third goal in added time.

Milan Primavera clinched three very important points against Cagliari earlier the same day, coming back from behind to win 2-1. Domnitei was the one who levelled the score - continuing his good run of form - and then Scotti converted a penalty to complete the comeback in the second half.

AC Milan Women had hoped to get a big three points in the race for the Champions League on Saturday afternoon, but they were held to a goalless draw by Napoli. It is a missed opportunity for the Rossonere given that Juventus lost, meaning the gap could have been just one point, but instead they remain in fifth and three points off a UCL spot.

A lot of the talk after the boring game against Juventus is about the failure of the attack again. Pulisic remains in a confidence crisis, Leao’s future continues to grow in uncertainty, while the fate of the supporting cast seems sealed as well. With three goalless outings in the last four games, it is tough to make a solid case for any of the five forwards remaining.
