Zero goals. That is the combined tally of Milan’s striker duo in the league so far, and there are just two goals to show between them if we look at all competitions. It’s almost as if you have to pinch yourself to see if it’s a dream, or rather a nightmare, in which a spell has been cast upon Santiago Gimenez and Christopher Nkunku to hurt Milan’s Scudetto chances.

I will take a closer look at the financial side of things further below, but with nearly €70m invested in the duo, the return has been shocking at the start of this season. It’s what many feared in the summer, given the long-winded striker pursuit and Gimenez’s acclimatisation issues, though I doubt even the main critics imagined such a poor output. Because it really is poor.

As seen in the game against Atalanta, it’s certainly having a big impact on the team's performance too. Let’s just put it this way: if Massimiliano Allegri still had hair left on his head, most of it would have been ripped out by now. So, what can Milan do for the remainder of the season? How much money hangs in the balance? Are there any solutions for the January window? Let’s take a look.
