New era extends to commercialism: Three major changes by Milan [Bonus Article]
“I’m the captain now”. If you watched the presentation of Ruben Amorim on Wednesday afternoon, which started with a statement by Gerry Cardinale, you will know that the quote is a very fitting description. However, while most are focused on the appointment of the head coach and the recent signings, I want to shift focus a little to the commercial side of things.
Milan are finally revving their engine on the mercato, and now I want to talk about commercialisation?! It sounds boring, but there have been some significant changes in recent months that I want to talk more about. And besides, if we can increase the overall revenue, more money can be spent on signing players - so we all want the same thing in the end.
Of course, the increased focus on the commercial front is by no means new at Milan. That development has been going on for years, basically ever since Elliott Management took over the club, but it has been accelerated during Cardinale’s tenure. With the RedBird owner now becoming even more present, well, you could say that the matter has been accelerated once again.
I’m running the risk of sounding a bit vague here, so perhaps before we get started, head over to Milan’s website. If you have visited it before, I’m sure you will notice some pretty big changes and they all have a commercial purpose. On top of that, the Rossoneri confirmed some new practices for ticket sales, while customer loyalty remains a key aspect.
Short Version
Milan unveiled their new website recently, featuring some pretty significant changes from the previous design. In addition to the modern look, the biggest takeaways are that the shop and ticket icons now have a more prominent position, which has a clear commercial purpose.
It’s now possible to buy two types of season tickets: ‘Classic’ which includes the 19 home league games and ‘Plus’ which also includes league phase games of the Europa League. On top of that, Milan have launched the MyTickets app for easier management of your tickets (not just season tickets). Big upgrade.
Rossoneri Rewards has been running for a while now, but in light of the aforementioned changes, the initiative is clearly part of the new era. It’s great for rewarding loyalty and certainly comes in handy, but on the flip side, one can question if the programme is ‘too commercially-minded’.
It’s obvious that Milan are taking important steps to match some of the top European clubs, commercially speaking. Fans want RedBird to invest more, but to do so, more revenue is needed. Revenue is the foundation of everything and trust me, Cardinale isn’t the only club owner who thinks so.
New website unveiled
Since I asked you to look at the website, let’s start there. Yes, you guessed right, Milan have a completely new design! It’s all very fresh as the changes were published last week, and you can clearly see the differences. The first thing that really grabs your attention, inevitably, is the massive banner which now allows the media team to add videos, and not just still images.
