AC Milan’s stadium pursuit continues and after the ‘breakthrough’ of sorts with the La Maura area a few weeks back, the Rossoneri could turn to one of their many Plan Bs. San Donato, along with Sesto San Giovanni, are two areas that always have been contenders and the former one is especially interesting.

It’s no secret that time is of the essence for Gerry Cardinale and Milan in the stadium pursuit. As opposed to Elliott Management, one of RedBird’s main priorities for the Rossoneri is to build a new stadium and that’s why there has been a significant acceleration in the last few weeks.

If you need a background on La Maura, you can take a look at our bonus article from a few weeks back (even though it’s a few weeks old now). The main issue that has emerged since that article was written, is the opposition of not just the local residents but also the local politicians. Cardinale has the Milan mayor and the Lombardy president on his side, but it might not be enough.

As a result, Milan are now once again seriously evaluating moving outside the city limits to either Sesto San Giovanni or San Donato. Those two appear to be the most likely options, anyway, and new information has come to light with regard to San Donato in the last few days.

Radio Rossonera first reported that the area has become a very concrete option for Milan amid the La Maura hurdles. And there is a good reason for this new-found interest. Back in 2018, the San Donato council voted through a sports project for the San Francesco area, including a 23,000-seat multipurpose stadium and various other constructions (see photo below).
