There have been some developments on the stadium front, following a meeting between representatives from AC Milan, Inter, the Milan council and WeBuild. Indeed, the San Siro renovation hypothesis is cautiously gathering steam and a new meeting has been scheduled between the parties. So, what do we know as of right now? Let’s take a look.
In January, the Italian company WeBuild announced their master plan for San Siro: a renovation without interfering with Milan and Inter’s games. At most, around 5k would be stripped from the capacity during the renovation process.
The origin story of this proposed renovation is the need to increase the stadium revenue. Not just San Siro’s functionality must be improved, though, but also the bureaucracy as Milan and Inter don’t own the stadium. This has prompted the Milan council to consider a transfer of ownership, or at the very least, a leasehold agreement for the next 99 years, giving the clubs total freedom of the land (within reason).
