Screams to no avail, bargain signings and Conte's obvious play [Bonus article]
A lot has happened in the last week or so as Milan have taken big steps forward with their stadium project, along with other headline-worthy events such as the success of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and that interview by Antonio Conte. So let’s go through them one by one, extending the discussion of these topics as Milano could be heading for a power shift.
Stadium screams to no avail
On Tuesday evening, a public debate was held in the San Donato council as protestors showed up to voice their concerns about the stadium project. It ended up being a rowdy affair, with citizens sharing their comments at a very loud volume, and accepting nothing for an answer even though the mayor Francesco Squeri did his best to explain the council’s stance.
Most of the questions could not be answered by the council, relating to evaluations that will be made during the Program Agreement. For example, the council currently cannot provide clear answers on the public transport dilemma, simply because this must be discussed with the Lombardy region as well. Unfortunately, while some were calm and expressed their opinions well, most of the opposition was less so.
The most ridiculous comment, in our opinion, arrived from a woman who expressed her concerns about PIF, the Saudi Arabian investment fund, potentially taking over Milan once the stadium project has been secured. She said something along the lines of ‘How can we allow an area like San Francesco, right by the Parco Agricolo Sud, to be tainted by Saudi Arabia?’. Needless to say, this makes absolutely no sense.
