👀 Musah closing in on Napoli move…
Sorry to the Americans out there (or it depends on how you view the matter, I guess), but the news of Yunus Musah being close to Napoli was a pleasant surprise. Yes, the midfielder arrived at the club with a lot of potential and more than once, we also got to see some of that shine through on the pitch. As a whole, however, it’s been a tough watch since he joined in the summer of 2023.
The SempreMilan rating for this past season certainly highlighted how bad it was, with an average of 5.63/10 from 36 ratings and only two players worse than him, namely Noah Okafor and Emerson Royal (see the full ratings list here). And if we can’t even convince Max Allegri to have faith in the player - a coach who normally finds value in what isn’t considered mainstream - then it feels like time to move on.
You could argue that Antonio Conte is another one of those coaches, in fact he definitely is, but Milan need to offload whatever deadwood they can at this point. Cashing on €20-25m this summer would thus be a very good outcome after such a poor season, especially since it would result in a capital gain of €7-12m. If he then lives up to his potential under Conte, that’s another thing…
🌏 Perth-bound again?
After the rumours that emerged in May, which were then confirmed by the Serie A president, the hypothesis of games abroad for Milan next season has been further fueled by Australian media. In fact, it’s being reported that the Rossoneri could face Como at Optus Stadium in Perth, the city in which they will play a friendly this summer (and also played a friendly last year).
The game coincides with the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics, which will take place at San Siro. In other words, even if not in Australia, Milan will have to find a new venue. The clash against Lecce on January 18 is also expected to be affected as preparations for the inauguration will begin eight days before that. It remains to be seen if that also could be played abroad.
While we‘re on the subject of next season’s schedule, Lega Serie A is considering changing the venue for the Coppa Italia final from Stadio Olimpico to San Siro. It would certainly be an incentive for Milan to make it far in the competition, especially with Allegri at the helm. The Rossoneri last lifted the Coppa Italia trophy at San Siro, winning in 2002-03 when the final was played over two legs…
📋 Milan Bulletin
Below, we have collected the most important Milan news from the last week, including our longer reads and newspaper reports.
📰 Latest News
For Milan Futuro, any slim hopes of getting a repechage and remaining in Serie C seem to be fading fast, and it could be Inter who deal the final blow. Meanwhile, Jovan Kirovski is expected to keep his job as the sporting director despite the relegation.
The big news is of course the sale of Reijnders to Manchester City, which was made official on Wednesday. The fee and structure of the operation have been broken down by Matteo Moretto, as has the capital gain that the Rossoneri will make, while the midfielder spoke of his delight to move to the Premier League.
It is becoming apparent that the new head coach Massimiliano Allegri will be one of the architects of the ‘new Milan’, along with Tare. He will have a big say in the transfer business done, while there is plenty of work to do on the squad and a preseason plan already in place.
Mercato news round-up: Maignan's exit has collapsed, Allegri is pushing to reunite with a former Juventus midfielder, Bennacer could return to Milan and stay, four potential Theo replacements are being evaluated, a Torino star remains a target and Beppe Riso was at Casa Milan to discuss five of his clients.
