🎢 Let’s go for a ride!

I suppose we have become used to hectic times when the summer rolls around, but what we have witnessed in the last few weeks is nothing short of extraordinary. And I’m not even talking about the performances on the pitch, which have been abysmal to say the least. I’m talking about the fact that we have gone from just sacking the manager, to sacking the sporting director too, to sacking the CEO as well!

Perhaps those would be the right decisions to make, but how can we even be in this situation four years (!) into RedBird’s tenure? That in itself is embarrassing and it gets even worse when you consider that two of the aforementioned figures, namely Massimiliano Allegri and Igli Tare, were hired last summer. Talk about a total corporate collapse.

Only time will tell what the actual outcome will be, but the feeling is that Furlani’s tenure has come to an end. By feeling I don’t mean what we are hearing from Gerry Cardinale’s camp, but I just mean that we have reached a natural ending. The same can be said for Rafael Leao, even if the ‘damage’ done by him is nowhere near the aftermath of the CEO’s decisions…

📅 Scheduling chaos

Haven’t kept up with this weekend’s scheduling chaos for Serie A? Good, because you haven’t missed anything yet. Just two days ago, Milan announced on their official website that the date and time for the Genoa clash would be Sunday at 12:30 local time. However, everything descended into confusion when the prefecture in Rome ordered Roma-Lazio to be played at 20:45 on Monday instead.

The problem, stated in the decision, was that there wouldn’t be enough time between the derby and the Italian Open tennis final (scheduled for 17:00). In case you aren’t familiar, the tennis court and Stadio Olimpico are literally right next to each other, and travel is already bad when there’s one event going on. However, Lega Serie A immediately opposed this and for a very good reason.

As we are at the end of the season, all teams still competing with each other in the standings have to play at the same time. Moving the Roma game, as such, would also move Genoa-Milan, Pisa-Napoli, Como-Parma, and Juve-Fiorentina. No final decision has been made yet, but it seems the compromise could be 12:00 on Sunday, with the tennis final moved to 17:30 as well.

Sunday was not a successful day for AC Milan at any level, as the Futuro had their season ended in the play-offs with a 2-1 extra-time loss to Chievo Verona. It was a heartbreaking 119th-minute penalty that was the final blow, though in terms of the plans very little will apparently change, with Serie D still seen as a good arena for a youth-led project.

Milan Primavera headed into Saturday’s clash against Parma with the aim of ending the season on a good note. However, despite going 2-0 up, they collapsed and suffered a 4-2 defeat. It was a perfect game to summarise an inconsistent season with bad phases undoing good work, resulting in an 11th-placed finish.

The AC Milan Women secured three points in their penultimate game of the season, beating Parma 3-1 at home on Sunday afternoon with Grimshaw getting a brace. We must also congratulate the Women’s Primavera side, who lifted the Scudetto after beating Sassuolo on penalties in the final on Monday night
