The stadium project has certainly been hard to follow, with new developments - above all bureaucratic ones - making for a tough read. From the outside looking in, it might seem like there has been no movement at all in the last few weeks, but this is not exactly correct.
Because Milan are indeed moving forward and even though the process is far from speedy, an important milestone was recently reached. So, what are the key takeaways from the latest developments that you should know about? Let’s dive in!
1. Latest developments and the confirmed timeline
First of all, we have to discuss what has happened in the last week or so, because there is indeed a lot to touch on. On January 23rd, during a meeting called for the board of directors, Milan officially approved the purchase of the land in San Francesco through the subsidiary company Sportlifecity. The cost? Around €40m, which RedBird had already injected in anticipation of this (which also covers all the related costs of the stadium project).
Two days later, on January 25th, San Donato Mayor Francesco Squeri called a press conference to deliver the verdict of the council’s technical committee on Milan’s project variant. The latter term, in case you are wondering, refers to the fact that the Rossoneri presented a completely different project compared to the one Sportlifecity initially planned for the area many years ago.
