Aside from the Champions League campaign, nothing has gone according to plan for AC Milan this season. It hasn’t stopped at disappointments on the pitch either, with above all disagreements making the headlines in recent weeks, and the severity of the situation simply cannot be trivialised. On the other hand, it must be said that there is a glimmer of hope, with the emphasis being on glimmer.
It’s certainly difficult to look past the actions of the ownership, as well as the protests of the Curva Sud, but we have to at least try for one second. If not, then we can write off the season now and resort to the mediocrity that has shaped everything (more or less) so far. I would like to believe there’s still something to get from this season, and the upcoming tasks/opportunities suggest that is the case.
From the glorious opportunity in the Champions League to the Supercoppa Italiana, without forgetting the Coppa Italia, it’s possible for Fonseca to turn the ship around and find salvation on shore. He will only have one crack at it, that’s for sure, and help will be needed as attempting such a difficult challenge alone is impossible. Or at least it would certainly be delusional.

Trophies, top four and top eight
There is no doubt that many Milan fans headed into the season with hopes of clinching the Scudetto, as well as the second star. Napoli lifting the trophy in 2022-23, and Inter in 2023-24, meant there was certainly a great urge among the fans - and Milan as a club - to prove that they deserve to be in the Scudetto discussions. As such, the first half of the season has been a huge disappointment.
This cannot be overlooked and the management will inevitably pay a price for the failure, whether that be through decreased interest or the complete rupture of the relations with the fans (which has already been initiated). Having said that, there is an opportunity to somewhat rescue the season, pulling everything together while postponing the painful evaluations to the summer.
