If you just skimmed the news earlier this week, you might currently have worrying thoughts about AC Milan. “We could get a points deduction in Serie A”, “UEFA could exclude us from their competitions”, “Elliott still owns Milan!”, or perhaps something along those lines. Once again, however, this is the result of the vendetta-driven Italian media and boasting authorities.
Before we go any further with our discussion, let’s make one thing very clear: the owner of AC Milan is RedBird Capital Partners. Out of all the lies that the Italian media has spat out in the last week, suggesting that the aforementioned isn’t the case is by far the worst. It is an embarrassing attack on not just RedBird, but also Milan as a club. This naturally begs the question, why? To understand the situation, we must look at how Italian media works and the never-ending delusion of Italian authorities.
The Vendetta Approach
In my seven years of working as a journalist, I have gained some pretty valuable lessons when it comes to Italian media and in particular the big newspapers. While biased reporting surrounds us, with objectivity a mere utopia, what the Italian newspapers have been doing is something else. Carefully studied attacks, or perhaps I should say attempts to cause havoc for certain clubs, managers and even players. Something that isn’t exclusive to Milan either, I must point out.
