View from the press box and concrete takeover rumours
AC Milan bounced back with an important 2-0 win against Genoa on Friday evening, keeping their Scudetto hopes alive. We were present at the game and in this week’s newsletter, we will share some images from the trip and we will also discuss the recent takeover rumours that have emerged.
The view from the press box…
For the game against Genoa, SempreMilan had a writer present in the press box and luckily, the Rossoneri claimed all three points. It was a fantastic atmosphere at San Siro as Milan set a new record in terms of tickets sold for a home game this season. In total, 70.259 were present for the game.
Below, you can take a look at the videos taken before and during the game, including a very fitting chant from the Curva Sud ahead of the derby this evening.
Takeover rumours emerge…
In the last few days, there have been several reports suggesting that Milan could be sold as early as the summer. Investcorp are in exclusive talks with Elliott Management over the purchase of the club and the total price tag is $1.1bn, which also includes the cost of building the new stadium.
The talks are proceeding well and they could be completed at the end of the season. Most likely, the likes of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara will keep their jobs in the club but an exit cannot be ruled out either. The same can be said for Ivan Gazidis, even though Investcorp intend to continue on the path Elliott have created.
Investcorp, a Bahrain-based fund, is deemed very solid and highly reliable. Behind it, there is a giant like Mubadala, the sovereign wealth fund of the United Arab Emirates with assets of over $350bn. Mubadala have 20% shares in Investcorp, and that offers huge guarantees.
In short, Milan will continue to have a very solid and reliable owner even after Elliott, with the aim of continuing the path of success the Rossoneri have been on in the last two years.
Derby coming up and an exciting finale…
This evening (Tuesday), Milan will face Inter in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals and they only need a scoring draw (eg. 1-1) to go through to the final. That is because the away goal rule will be scrapped next season, and not this one in the Coppa Italia.
In addition to this clash, an exciting finale of course awaits and for the game against Atalanta, we will have a few writers present at the game. Another vlog for our Youtube channel is on the cards, in other words. Until then, Forza Milan!
