Why the Yankees buying AC Milan isn't science fiction [Bonus Article]
I’m not sure where to begin this article, but I don’t think I’m wrong in saying that most of you have read the report about the Yankees potentially taking over AC Milan from RedBird. We will get into the weeds of it all, so don’t worry if you haven’t read it, but the whole situation got me thinking about Fenway Sports Group (FSG) and their ownership of Liverpool FC, as well as the Boston Red Sox.
Can you see the headlines already? The Steinbrenner family on one side with the Yankees and Milan, FSG on the other with the Red Sox and Liverpool. A quick Google search will tell you that Yankees vs. Red Sox is sometimes considered to be one of the greatest rivalries in sports, and we all know just how much Milan vs. Liverpool means in the football world…
The stars would have to align for this to become a reality anytime soon, but it’s not as far-fetched as one might think. The more I pondered the idea in my head, the more I realised that you probably couldn’t even call it a surprising turn of events. The Steinbrenners have always been there in the background, more or less for Gerry Cardinale’s entire career.
