Will history repeat itself? [Bonus Article]
Today’s bonus article was initially meant to be about the state of the online media, but what happened at the weekend has left me with no choice. Don’t worry, I will publish my rant on the former eventually but for now, we simply have to discuss the struggles of AC Milan’s season opener, what brought the Rossoneri to Paulo Fonseca in the first place and the business done this summer.
Saturday’s game against Parma was tough to digest, there are no two ways about it, and it’s quite hard to explain what we witnessed. The pre-season had at least left us with some form of optimism and the players themselves spoke very highly of the new ideas. Absolutely nothing of this has been seen on the pitch in the first two games, though, and that is incredibly worrying.
While the rumours of Max Allegri replacing Fonseca are completely unfounded, there is something to be said about how quickly we got to this point. Even during Marco Giampaolo’s season (two wins in the first three games) this wasn’t the case and I can understand why the fans are having trouble dealing with this. After all, this was meant to be a season of acceleration, so what is really the story?
