Assessing Milan, Inter and Juve's wages amid star renewals [Bonus Article]
In light of Matteo Gabbia’s recent renewal, incredibly well deserved by the way, there has been an increased focus on the star renewals that AC Milan have on the cards. Of course, we are mainly talking about the more pressing ones like Theo Hernandez and Mike Maignan, but the skyrocketing form of Tijjani Reijnders means there is a lot going on. So, what do you need to know?
It’s not exactly a secret that Milan have been quite conservative with the wages since Elliott Management took over the club. The infamous words ‘salary cap’ have been thrown around more than once and in the Rossoneri’s case, it’s certainly not wrong to do that. Nor has the club denied the matter, simply referring to the financial situation and the need for restructuring.
Now, however, we have reached a point where Milan are ready to sign off on some pretty big commitments on the salary front. In fact, you could argue that this work has already begun as the wage bill has increased by about €10m in each of the last three financial years. Adding new signings and the current renewals, this trend certainly won’t change - though obviously to a natural limit.
In this bonus article, we will take a look at the upcoming star renewals and how much they will actually cost Milan. Furthermore, we will analyse the highest earners of Milan, Inter and Juventus - as well as the overall wage bills - to understand how it could look for the Rossoneri in the future. Or rather, where we should expect them to be with the ambition of sporting success.
