As usual I am late reading this and commenting. It occurred to me that if Cardinale got rid of Maldini/Massara, the Milanisti would be very unhappy but would the board care? It's all about revenue in the end and our fantastic league triumph last year is going to blow wind into our sales for years, even if we dont win the league again for half a decade. Look at Man United and Borussia Dortmund. They havent won the league in 10 years and but there revenue continues to grow and grow and grow. Roma fans may have been pissed when Totti stepped down from his director role, but I'm confident the Roma is making more money now than when he was there. As long as they can keep generating that commercial revenue (and MIlan have gotten better at spreading the bible of Red and Black across the world) the board will be pleased.

I would hate to see us just happy to finish in the top 4 every season to qualify for the CL. That late-Wenger Arsenal vibe ultimately is unsatisfying if we dont challenge for something every few years. Generating more revenue but never winning anything is pointless.
